While we were hiking along the Hermit Trail on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, we came to an overlook that included a view of a couple of closed uranium mines. These
mines are left over from the cold war but are not yet cleaned up. (I had no idea stuff like this was even allowed in the Canyon).
We were standing there with a small group and noticed Jessica's hair (as well as the hair of another girl) was standing straight up. Both girls were the only ones there with curly hair (mine was slicked back with hair gel) - and each time either one of them would touch the metal railing they would receive a strong static-electricity shock.
Can you see it in the photo?
Was there a thunderstorm in the area?
ReplyDeleteNo thunderstorm - we actually joked about lightening striking so your question makes great sense.
